Jesús Local Health Center

Competition for the construction of the new Jesús Local Health Center

– ENVIRONMENT

The building is located in a privileged place, being the vertex of the sanitary complex of the Hospital de la Santa Cruz de Jesús, which is more directly related to the urban fabric.
In an analysis of the immediate surroundings we highlight several buildings where a strong architectural image of heavy materials such as ceramic brick predominates.

– ARCHITECTURAL PROPOSAL

It is distributed on three floors according to the three main areas of the program. The multipurpose area is located next to the entrance to the first floor for easy access. The second floor will be occupied by general medicine and the third floor will house pediatrics and internal work, separated by the vertical core.
The first floor, with less built area, allows to withdraw creating a porch that marks the access to the building, which is also withdrawn from the promenade to align with the neighboring building while creating a previous outdoor plaza space.
All floors follow the same distribution scheme, concentrating the consultation and internal work rooms on the north façade to receive uniform light and overlook the courtyard, and the waiting and circulation rooms on the south façade. The vertical core is located in the center of the building to improve communication, optimizing routes and the passage of facilities.

– CONSTRUCTIVE PROPOSAL

Looking for a compact image in relation to the surroundings and constructive optimization, brick has been chosen as the exclusive element of the building’s image, being a material of local origin and production, economical and easy to maintain.
The multiple options for the use of brick in the composition of the facade allow us to respond to the lighting conditions and climatic comfort of each of the spaces.
The facade is resolved with a wall of ceramic bricks, arranged in rows, alternating horizontal and vertical bricks that are transformed into a lattice when openings appear in the interior, increasing the separation depending on the light that we want to enter, creating a skin that acts as a filter and sunscreen, generating a play of light and shadows that transforms.
The start of the facade on the first floor is made with a continuous wall creating a plinth that solves the slope of the street. The same solution is used on the roof to crown and finish the building.
